The Meaning Behind the Name
TSENTE — Unity Is Strength
In the Babanki (Kejom) language of Cameroon's Northwest region, TSENTE means unity, togetherness, and group. Our village motto — TSENTE Di Kedjoh — has guided our founder from childhood to global leadership.
"Every product carries a short story. Journey back to childhood — or discover a new experience — with every cup."
— Ruth Akumbu, Founder & Owner
TSENTE creates a space to support and celebrate Afro products — starting with herbs and teas from the African continent. When you buy TSENTE, you join a community of unity.

THE TSENTE RITUAL
How to Brew the Perfect African Cup
Tea is not just a beverage. It is a practice — a moment of stillness rooted in centuries of African herbal wisdom.
1
Measure with intention
Use 1 teaspoon per 8 oz of water. One 4 oz TSENTE bag yields 40+ cups — far more than mass-market boxes.
2
Heat your water mindfully
Rooibos and Honeybush love boiling water (212°F). Hibiscus blooms at 200°F. Lemongrass at 195°F. Chai — brew it bold.
3
Steep and breathe
5–7 minutes is the sweet spot. Let the aroma work its magic before your first sip. This moment is yours.
4
Sip the story
Every TSENTE tea carries a heritage. As you drink, you are part of the unity — connected from Cameroon to your cup.

Hibiscus / Folere
Ruby-red, tartly bright. Rich in antioxidants. Prized for heart health across West & Central Africa.

Lemongrass
A West African wellness staple. Citrusy, refreshing, celebrated for digestive support and relaxation.

NileZen Chai
Inspired by ancient Nile trade routes. Warming spices — with or without caffeine — deeply comforting.

Ethiopian Coffee
From Sidamo — the birthplace of coffee. Smooth, full-bodied decaf without sacrificing the soul of the bean.

Meet the Founder
Educator · Author · Coach · Tea Blender
Dr. Ruth Akumbu did not set out to build a tea brand. She set out to honour her roots. Growing up in Cameroon, every gathering was anchored in the sharing of herbal drinks — Folere hibiscus, fragrant lemongrass, warm infusions steeped in communal pots. Tea was already a form of unity.
When she moved to the United States, she noticed a gap: African herbal traditions were largely invisible on the wellness market. TSENTE was her answer — an authentic, continent-sourced collection for everyone who deserves to know where their wellness comes from.
Today, Dr. Akumbu blends and curates every product with the same intentionality she brings to her academic and leadership work — honouring the cultures that produced these herbs and inviting every customer into the community of unity that TSENTE represents.

All TSENTE teas now come in generous 4 oz (113g) bags — upgraded from the previous 2.5 oz. With 1 teaspoon per 8 oz of water, a single bag yields approximately 40+ cups. That is exceptional value — one bag of TSENTE can last you an entire month.
Yes. TSENTE teas are crafted with organic and herbal ingredients, hand-selected for quality and authenticity. There are no artificial additives, fillers, or flavors — only pure herbal goodness sourced from the African continent and diaspora.
Most of the TSENTE collection is naturally caffeine-free: all Rooibos varieties, all Honeybush varieties, all Hibiscus (Folere) teas, the Lemongrass, and the NileZen Caffeine-Free Chai. The NileZen Caffeinated Chai contains caffeine. The Sidamo Decaf Coffee is decaffeinated.

Three things: authentic African sourcing (our teas come from the continent, not a generic supply chain); cultural story (every product carries heritage, not just ingredients); and our founder — Dr. Ruth Akumbu brings the lived experience of a Cameroonian woman raised with these herbs as a daily part of life, not a wellness trend.
Eleven teas. One continent. An infinite number of mornings, evenings, and shared moments. Whether you are new to African herbalism or returning to a tradition from home — TSENTE has a tea with your name on it.
A brand rooted in Cameroonian heritage, dedicated to unity, community, and authentic African wellness traditions. Founded by Dr. Ruth Vitsemmo Akumbu, PhD. Los Angeles, California.
